The Minds Association of Penang (MAP) is a non-profit organization founded in 2016 by special education experts. We started with 5 trainees and now have 30. Our goal is to provide education and job opportunities for people with disabilities. We operate Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In the mornings, we offer educational coaching. In the afternoons, we provide job training. Full-time trainees are OKU youths who finished high school, while secondary school OKU students join us in the afternoons. Our training includes academics, life skills, self-management, and job skills. We help trainees find jobs by connecting them with employers. Most trainees come from low-income, single-parent families. Parents leave their OKU children with us during work hours, knowing they will get training and three meals a day. Trainees learn crafts like batik, basket weaving, keychain making, pebble painting, toy stitching, and spa product making, supported by a grant from the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiative by the All Party Parliamentary Group of Malaysia (APPGM).
